I brought my pillow today to the set because I wanted this to represent sleep, relaxation. Why is that necessary? Well, I’ve noticed a lot of leaders even the last phone call I had with a client talked about at six o’clock they just needed to unplug and never felt that way before. And I’ve felt that way, I’ve had other clients that have felt that way, maybe you’ve felt the same thing. That at six o’clock you’re just done.

No email, no reading, you just wanted to unplug, recharge, sometimes you’re in bed by [9:00]. I don’t think you should feel guilty about this because this is part of being the leader that you need to be. Knowing when to go hard and knowing when to step back and relax.

My pillow represents relaxation and sleep. I want to remind you that it’s okay to unplug, and, in fact, with this coronavirus that’s going on maybe there are some times when you can’t continue to press the way you have in the past. Maybe it’s an energy thing, but you wanna conserve yourself for the right moments, and you wanna work hard when you need to work and be there for your team, but you also wanna know that you can lay your head on a pillow.

My name’s Gene Hammett. I work with leaders in defining moments of their own growth. Their journey of success. Helping to get more clear and more courage and confidence about who they are and where they’re going. I’ve been doing this for over eight years, and if I could serve you in any way, make sure you let me know.

As always, look for more videos like this where I bring to you tips to help you be the leader that you wanna be. Lead with courage, and I’ll see you next time.
