Chapter 10
Finding the essential
Greg McKeown, Author of Essentialism (NY Times Best Selling Author), shared a practical and actionable exercise with me that is powerful—if you have the courage to apply it.
- Take a few minutes every day to make an essential list of six important things to do.
- Place them in order of priority.
- Cross out the bottom five. Take the top item and do as much as you can to get it done.
- Then move on to the next item on your list.
Okay, four steps. It’s that simple—and simple is best if you want to make it work.

Chapter 11
Examples of Mission at a personal level and a corporate level.
“Check out the TOS Resources for more examples and a special training that helps you create your mission. ”
Let’s look at some individual examples:
Gene Hammett — Serve leaders to go beyond what they believe is possible.
My mission should resonate with what you read in this book about continuous growth, facing fears, having courage, and creating the dance of success and significance. The word “leader” to me means anyone that wants to make a change for the future. It could be an employee or an entrepreneur. It could also be a coach or a father. I want to activate others to live a life of contribution AND success.
Sean Stephenson — Rid the world of insecurity.
In case you missed Chapter 4, I want to remind you that this comes from a man who stands 36 inches tall due to a rare bone disorder that stunted his growth.
Here are some corporate examples:
Google — Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.
NIKE — To bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world. If you have a body, you are an athlete.
Patagonia — Build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire, and implement solutions to the environmental crisis.
