Today, we’re going to talk about difficult conversations. I was recently talking with a client and this came up and it had never really dawned on me. How to make the shift when you’re having a difficult conversation in front of you. The shift is being that usually there’s a lot of resistance intention.

[00:00:16] You believe that you need to have a conversation, but for some reason, you’re not doing. For some reason you’re afraid. For some reason, you, you really don’t want to have that difficult conversation. Now, I’ve done some videos on the framework for the difficult conversation. If you want to get that, just go to genehammett.com/difficultconversations, and you will be able to download the framework.

[00:00:38] Absolutely for FREE. But this episode is not about the framework. This episode is about the energy shift that makes this possible. Removes the resistance and actually allows you to be the leader that you want to be. Here’s what it is. Instead of thinking that this is a difficult conversation, that it’s something that, you know, it’s about feedback for someone about them not having the standards, which you see as acceptable to move the business.

[00:01:07] See this conversation as an opportunity, an opportunity to get back in alignment, the opportunity is to get together and move together. Make some decisions together. This opportunity is an energy shift. The reason being is because we resist difficult conversations, but an opportunity conversation will really help you know, that this is a way to move forward.

[00:01:32] Now you may call this a mindset shift. And I agree with you. It is a mindset shift because it’s just making your mind up that this is not going to be difficult. This is an opportunity for us to deepen our trust, get in alignment together and move forward. Here’s what happens when you are able to do this. No longer are you in resistance and build the friction of something that needs to be done because it’s going to be difficult that you’re.

[00:02:00] It shifts into a place of, oh, this gives me a chance to give feedback to someone, to move us forward, to build trust with each other. I’ve been through many of these conversations with my clients before, and they’re this energy shift does work. All you have to do is make up in your mind that it’s not going to be difficult, that it’s an opportunity to move forward.

[00:02:24] Any feedback is an opportunity. If you ask employees. Would they rather know the feedback to move forward or not know it?  9 times out of 10, they’re going to say they want to know the feedback. And the person who doesn’t want to know the feedback, I’m not sure what they’re thinking, but 9 times out of 10, of course, I made that number up, but it’s a huge number of people want to know more about how they can do better, how they can create more value and how they can actually, you know, move up inside the company.

[00:02:54] And if you’re resisting those conversations, then you’re missing that opportunity an intended. So the energy shift here is just making up in your mind, anything that you think of as a difficult conversation, instead of you thinking that it’s difficult. Thinking about the opportunity to move forward, to build trust and a final alignment between them.
