There’s got to be a better way…
Gene himself came to a point in his entrepreneurial journey where even though he was making money, he felt dissatisfied and unfulfilled. He was afraid of losing everything. At the same time, he wasn’t truly embodying innovation. He was trapped in his own success and he was not stretching out of that comfy comfort zone.
I lost everything ($3 million)… & I had to start over.
Bankruptcy, settlements and more. Bye bye house. Bye bye money. His confidence was compromised. Despite the losses, Gene decided to keep going.
“At the end of the day people won’t remember what you said or did, they will remember how you made them feel” ~Maya Angelou. Gene eventually understood this golden nugget within the darkness and decided he wanted to do and help others achieve that as well. It became his mission.
Breaking free of the comfort zone (3 components)
Mindset: This is about how you think about things. It’s about how you see the world and yourself. What gets in the way of this is that inner critic – that little voice inside you that tells you you’re not enough, that it is not the right time. It keeps you from investing in yourself and that is a huge problem when people are trying to break free from where they are.
Strategy: A foundational concept Gene drills into his clients is that you can’t be all things to all people. So who are you for that certain niche?
Action: Each and every day, you are presented with a ‘test.” Gene has learned that procrastination or waiting for things to be perfect prevents any action from happening. Move and do things you’ve never done before. It doesn’t matter if you’ve got the best strategies all around if you aren’t taking action. This is what ultimately catalyzes results!
What is the one skill you need to be successful?
People are so focused on the tools and the strategies their mission. But what is actually missing is a deeper understanding of your inner game. This includes your mindset, the story that you’re living and the truth that you accept and live by. Who do you need to be for your clients to say those 3 words from that exercise we did earlier?
2 Types of Courage:
Pivotal Courage: Despite any fears or setbacks, you get back on your feet and move forward.
Silent courage: lives inside of us and we try to quiet as much as we can because we are afraid. This actually shapes more of our future than Pivotal Courage because of the daily battle with those fears and doubts. What is your habit of acknowledging your fear and moving forward anyway? “Courage is being scared but saddling up anyway” ~John Wayne
In this episode we’ll cover:
- 3 components to moving past your comfort zone
- Uncovering your fears
- Saddling up despite the fears
- The 2 types of courage
- How to create a Courage List
Practical and Actionable:
Create The Daily Courage List:
What are the things you’ve been wanting to do that you haven’t? Describe the fear you have about anything you’d like to be courageous about. Understand why you fear that. It takes courage to value our own gifts but once we do, we can move mountains.
