Creating a Growth Culture: The Transcript
Culture eats strategy for breakfast. You’ve probably heard this quote before, it’s from Peter Drucker, it’s decades old, but it is so true, because the culture is the personality of the organization. It’s how you guys approach the work that you do, the customers you have, and the growth that you have or don’t have inside the business.
Hi, my name’s Gene Hammett, I work with hyper-growth companies and those that wanna understand the lessons from hyper-growth so that they can activate more fast growth for their business. Yeah, more fast growth, probably didn’t sound right, but, I work with these leadership teams and the leaders themselves to really activate fast growth. So we’re talking about culture today.
A lot of people misunderstand the real importance of culture so let me just give you some quick insight into it.
Culture is about the way you approach the work you do, it’s about the way you position yourself, it’s about the personality of the organization as a whole. It’s not about one individual, but it’s about everyone and everything. And culture defines whether you guys are going to innovate or not. Culture defines whether you value customer service or not, or do you value being a market leader or not? Your culture really does shape everything about the way you guys go about business.
Now one of the things I found when working with hyper-growth companies is they’re very intentional about their culture, they spend a lot of time thinking about it and making sure that they’re aligned with growth. Now, being aligned with growth is all about you understanding what does it take to grow? How do you wanna grow? And making sure everyone in the organization is a part of that, they have a sense of ownership in that level of growth and that’s a big part of the culture and the research I do, I talk about it on stages, it’s one reason why I’m dressed up in this little jacket here today, is I’ve got a big speech this afternoon. But I share this with you about culture because I wonder where you are right now, how aligned is your culture to growth?
